Thread starter RatCat Start date Aug 3, Joined Aug 3, Messages 2 Reaction score 1. Hi guys, I just upgraded my laptop last night from Windows 7 to The freezing first occurred last night in which the mouse is still moveable, but everything else on the screen is frozen. I have tried booting the laptop again today and after about 2 minutes after login, the same thing happens and everything freezes except for the mouse which can only move.

I tried one more time and left it on the login screen for 5 minutes, however after entering the password the laptop completely freezes again. Has anyone got any ideas for a fix or what is going on?

Any help would be much appreciated! George Curran. Joined Aug 4, Messages 1 Reaction score 0. I can’t help, but am having similar problem of frequent freezing of my workstation when running various applications, or during system restarts. My only recourse has been to kill the power.

Joined Aug 3, Messages 7 Reaction score 1. Don’t have a fix, but I have a similar problem. For no reason the screen freezes, the mouse moves although nothing can be selected. After a minute or two the screen refreshes and all works again. This is because performing a system restore or a clean install of Windows 10 will automatically erase all data on your PC.

Therefore, you should back up your data to avoid major data loss. To back up the data on your PC, we recommend iBeesoft Dbackup. This is the best software that you can trust to effectively and completely backup your data.

This software is designed to maximize the backup process and the complete protection of your files, disks, partitions, and full operating system. It also features automatic backup options, which make it easier and highly efficient. You can recover the lost data with a professional data recovery tool.

For this, we also recommend iBeesoft Data Recovery software as the best software for the recovery process. Step 1: Select the file types that you need to recover. When you launch the iBeesoft Data Recovery tool, all file types will be selected by default. Step 2: Select the location to find or scan the data. Depending on where the files you want to recover are saved, such as a specified location or partition, you should select the location. The software will scan the partition and search for the lost data.

Then allow it to make changes to this PC. Windows will scan your system for corrupted files and attempt to fix.

So please be patient. If no problem is found or this fix does not help, continue with the next Windows 10 freezing fix. Updating drivers to the latest is always one choice when operating system goes abnormally. Here you can do the following simple things:. Click Windows 10 Start menu, click ” Run “, type ” devmgmt. Expand the categories to find the name of your devices. Then right-click on it and select ” Update Driver Software… “. In the pop-up window, choose ” Search automatically for updated driver software “.

Please make sure you have an active Internet connection. Click ” Restart now and check for problems recommended ” to check for problems immediately. If you want to check later, click ” Check for problems the next time I start my computer “. Windows will then restart, and you’ll see this page showing the progress of the check and the number of passes it will run on memory.

If you don’t see any errors here, your memory card probably isn’t the problem, and you should try the next Windows 10 freezing fix. Virtual memory is a combination of your RAM and a portion of your hard drive. It is mainly used to extend your computer’s physical memory. When your computer runs out of RAM, Windows uses virtual memory for temporary file storage. In case that it is the insufficient RAM brings Windows 10 freezes randomly issue, you can adjust the virtual memory.

Right-click ” This PC ” and choose ” Properties “. Then select ” Advanced system settings ” from the left panel. Go to ” Advanced ” tab and click ” Settings “. Go to ” Advanced ” tab again and choose ” Change… ” under Virtual memory section.

Ensure the ” Automatically manage paging file size for all drives ” is NOT checked. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I have no system restore points available and it is because of exactly what you said – System Protection wasn’t turned on, but I have now turned it on.

I am willing to try the second method you’ve recommended, however, what I do notice is that by disabling everything, you’re not quite isolating it until you actually identify exactly which service it is that is causing the issue. Thanks for the link from Acer – I wasn’t aware of that and it didn’t cross my mind to check for that either. If that is the case, can you point me in the direction of where I could get an ISO of the latest Windows 10 that is compatible with my device?

Appreciate the reply. I understand your sentiments with clean boot. Since the issue still happened on this state, let’s make sure that your Display Adapters and Motherboard drivers are up to date. Follow these steps:.

Select the Start button, type Device Manager , and select it from the list of results. Expand one of the categories to find the name of your device, then right-click or tap and hold it, and select Update Driver.

For graphics cards, expand the Display adapters category, right click your graphics card and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer’s website and follow their instructions. If all else fails, do try the answered thread by Andre Da Costa and reply back to this thread if there are improvements.
